Almost 150 years after publication of Charles Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species,” scientific understanding of evolution continues to take some remarkable twists and turns.
An online Special Report was created by S2N Media for the National Science Foundation to celebrate this important milestone. The report, with its thoughtful essays, intriguing interviews, and extensive timelines, chronicles the challenges and triumphs of the evolution of evolution.
Utilizing innovative Flash animation and interactivity, in a cohesive and unique navigational scheme, the report
features numerous essays by experts in the field, as well as streaming Flash video throughout. The site, which science blog “Work in Progress” called “brilliantly produced”, follows the effects of evolutionary theory on a number of science areas, including Astronomy, Anthropology, GeoSciences, Polar Sciences, and Biology, as well as a section on Darwin himself.
The history of evolution is illustrated in an elegant interactive timeline, which allows the audience to scroll through history while simultaneously viewing notable events in each of the science areas and in Darwin’s life.
